No. Spotify is not banning AI music. Its September 25, 2025 AI protections post says "all music is treated equally, regardless of the tools used to make it." So an original track you make with an AI music generator is treated like any other release, as long as the voice is not a copy of a real singer and the profile honestly represents you or a clearly fictional character.
What Spotify acts on is narrower: voices copied without permission, spam-style uploads, fake streams, and artist profiles that pass off an AI-generated person as a real one. That last group now carries an AI Persona badge, announced on August 11, 2026 and shown on profiles from mid-September.
Whether a given release goes live still depends on your distributor and on how the track, the voice, and the profile are presented. The badge marks a public identity that is an AI-generated photorealistic human, and it does not follow from the tool used to make the song.
Spotify Restricts Behaviors, Not Tools
| Situation | Spotify's position | What can happen |
|---|---|---|
| You use AI to write, sing, or produce your own music | Treated like any other music | Nothing for the tool itself. AI credits are optional. |
| A vocal imitates a real artist without their authorization | Not allowed | The music can be removed. |
| Mass uploads, duplicates, SEO hacks, artificially short tracks | Music spam filter | Tagged and no longer recommended. Egregious spam is removed. |
| Bots, scripts, or paid stream and playlist services | Artificial streaming | No royalties, playlist or track removal, distributor penalties. |
| A profile whose public identity is an AI-generated photorealistic person | Labeled | AI Persona badge. Left out of editorial and algorithmic recommendations by default. |
| Music delivered to another artist's profile | Content mismatch | Targeted. A beta tool lets affected artists remove themselves. |
If the song is original, the voice is not a copy of a real singer, and the profile honestly represents you or a clearly fictional character, none of the restricted rows apply.

The AI Persona Badge Is About Identity
Spotify's AI Persona support page defines an AI Persona as an artist whose public identity represents an AI-generated, photorealistic human. Using AI tools does not trigger it. A real person, a stage name, or a fictional character that is not a photorealistic AI human stays outside the badge, however the music was made. The August 11 announcement puts it plainly: "This badge is about the artist's public identity, not about how the music was made."
The About section shows one of two labels:
- AI Persona when the artist self-discloses.
- Likely AI Persona when Spotify's own review applies it.
Spotify's review starts with profiles above defined audience thresholds and looks at the name and imagery. Artists are notified and can appeal in Spotify for Artists. The badge sits next to the artist name on the profile, in Now Playing, in Search, and on playlist track rows.
The part that affects growth: by default, AI Personas are excluded from editorial and algorithmic recommendations unless a listener follows or engages with the artist. Spotify has not published how that changes stream counts.
Two things cannot be undone from your side. A self-disclosure cannot be switched off in Spotify for Artists (you have to contact Spotify), and a Spotify-applied Likely AI Persona badge can only be appealed. The self-disclosure path is Artist Settings, then Profile & Identity, then AI Persona, then Update.
Cloned Voices Get Removed
Impersonation is where Spotify removes music instead of labeling it. The 2025 post says "Vocal impersonation is only allowed in music on Spotify when the impersonated artist has authorized the usage."
The voice impersonation policy covers AI voice cloning and any other method. Calling the track an "AI version," or leaving the artist's name out of the credits, does not help when the voice is clearly recognizable. Spotify mentions exceptions such as certain parody, and it acts on claims from the artist or their representatives.
The Platform Rules also list impersonation of another creator's name or image as deceptive content, and the prohibited content page says content without the rightsholder's permission may be removed. A generated voice that belongs to nobody in particular is fine. A voice built to sound like a specific singer needs that singer's permission.
Spam and Fake Streams Are Filtered
AI makes it cheap to produce many near-identical tracks. That habit is what the spam filter targets: mass uploads, duplicates, SEO hacks, and artificially short tracks. Flagged tracks and uploaders are tagged and stop being recommended. In a July 2026 ABC News interview, Spotify's global head of artists, marketing and policy, Sam Duboff, added that egregious spam is removed from the service entirely.
Artificial streaming has its own penalties. Streams from bots, scripts, or paid stream and playlist services earn no royalties, do not count toward public numbers or charts, and do not influence recommendations. Repeat or severe cases can mean playlist removal, penalties or suspension from your distributor, or removal of the track.
For artists whose profiles receive releases that are not theirs, Spotify runs an Artist Profile Protection beta for a limited group. It lets them remove themselves from those releases up to 28 days after release.
AI Credits: Optional Disclosure in Song Credits
Spotify supports the DDEX industry standard for AI disclosures in credits, which can mark AI use in vocals, instrumentation, or post-production. The 2025 post says this is "not about punishing artists who use AI responsibly or down-ranking tracks for disclosing." Since the April 16, 2026 beta, credits arrive through your label or distributor, and not every distributor supports them yet.
Per the AI credits support page, credits are set per role (lyrics, vocals, instrumental performances, production), show only on mobile in Song credits and Now Playing, and never appear as a label on the track or profile. When AI and a human both contributed to a role, credit them separately. Your distributor still has its own AI terms, so read them before you upload.
How Other Streaming Platforms Treat AI Music
"Is AI music being banned?" depends on the service. Billboard's updating platform roundup (last updated August 27, 2026) reports these positions:
| Platform | Reported approach |
|---|---|
| Spotify | Allows AI music; acts on spam, impersonation, and fraud; AI Persona badge |
| Bandcamp | Bans AI-generated songs, including when AI did a substantial part of the work |
| Qobuz | Contract clauses prohibit delivering 100% AI-generated music |
| Tidal | Does not monetize AI-generated content; labels fully AI music |
| Deezer | Labels fully AI tracks found by its detector and keeps them out of recommendations |
| Apple Music | "Made With AI" labels based on provider disclosure, due by the end of 2026 |
Spotify sits on the permissive end. If you also distribute to Bandcamp, the same song may not be allowed there.
A Spotify Listing Is Not Copyright
Platform rules are not copyright law. A song being live on Spotify does not show that you own a copyright in it or that a copyright office would register it. For Suno tracks, the plan question and the registration question are covered in Suno commercial use.
Before You Release an AI-Assisted Song
- The voice is not a copy. No cloned or sound-alike vocal of a real artist without their permission.
- The release is not a batch of near-duplicates or tracks cut artificially short.
- The profile is honest. If your public image is a photorealistic AI person, expect the badge and decide whether to self-disclose.
- Your generator's license covers commercial release. On Suno, the plan active at download time decides. Other tools set their own rules.
- Your distributor accepts AI-assisted music. Read its current AI terms, and fill in AI credits if it offers them.
- No paid streams or playlist placements.
- Samples and lyrics you did not write are cleared.
Where LumiMusic Fits
For tracks made on LumiMusic, the music license sets the rules (see our license terms). Starter, Pro, and Unlimited subscribers, and users with active credit-pack access, may obtain a commercial license for qualifying music, including music generated before paid access began. Free or trial-only access does not grant commercial rights by itself. Once obtained, the right continues after paid access ends, as long as your use follows the terms.
The license allows publishing on streaming platforms and releasing through a distributor, and, where that service allows it, opting into Content ID, YouTube Publishing, a collecting society, or a copyright registry. It does not allow intentionally imitating a specific copyrighted song, recording, or artist identity, which matches Spotify's impersonation rule. It also makes no promise that every platform or distributor will accept, monetize, or distribute a track. The license permits distribution; Spotify and your distributor still decide.
If the finished mix sounds quieter than the tracks it will sit next to, run it through AI Mastering before you export the release file.
FAQ
Did Spotify remove 75 million AI songs?
Not exactly. Spotify said it removed over 75 million "spammy tracks" in the 12 months before September 2025. That is a spam figure, not a count of AI songs banned for being AI.
Can listeners filter out AI music on Spotify?
There is no AI filter switch. A Spotify community moderator said in October 2025 that filtering was not possible. What Spotify has added since is the AI Persona badge, which keeps those profiles out of recommendations by default, and optional AI credits. Spotify says listener reporting is planned "in the coming months."
Can I release Suno or LumiMusic songs on Spotify?
Spotify does not block them for being AI-generated. Your rights come from the generator's license for the plan you used, and acceptance comes from your distributor and Spotify. See Suno commercial use for Suno.
